The inn

Gasthof zum Bahnhof Brenzikofen

In 1896, the farmer and cattle dealer Friedrich Tschanz sold his former farm in Brenzikofen and acquired a new property in the village as well as building and agricultural land around the planned railroad line. Here he put his plans of an inn with a farm into practice and when in 1899 the then Emmental-Burgdorf-Thun railroad opened its newly built line, the actual inauguration of the inn as well as the associated farm also took place. In 1961, there was the first generation change: the innkeeper couple Hans and Margrit Tschanz-Engel took over the business.

Soon it became necessary to expand the inn for reasons of age and food hygiene. Therefore, in 1970, the farm was closed down, the cattle sold and the land leased. The kitchen, parlor and hall were rebuilt and an additional room was built in the former threshing floor. The former cowshed was converted into a horse stable.

In the last few years there have been some more conversions: The "Kalberhüttli", where once cattle trader Friedrich Tschanz had put trading animals, is now the studio-gallery "Zum alten Rossstall" and the hayloft was converted into an apartment. Then in 2000 the next generation change took place: Margreth Tschanz took over the parental inn. The parents, however, continued to help in the business. Hans Tschanz passed away a few years ago, but the mother, Mrs. Margrit Tschanz still works actively.

But the character of a small village pub has remained until today. The regular guests of the "Bähnhöflis" are old and young, locals, clubs, hikers, cyclists, riders and "Hündeler". The menu contains many inexpensive dishes from good home cooking. During the summer months, guests can even enjoy vegetables and salads from the restaurant's own garden. In addition, a 40-seat terrace with evening sun invites you to linger in the warm season. The long-time employees as well as the landlady are looking forward to serving all guests from far and near also in the future.
